Jung_E 2023 Netflix Ending Explained

You might not expect Netflix's Jung E to emotionally wallop you in the chest with its AI robots, Blade Runner-like world, and opening action sequence.

This sci-fi thriller from Yeon Sang-ho, director of the 2016 zombie horror Train to Busan, follows a researcher and her team as they attempt to find the key to creating the greatest AI combat robot. A hidden connection to the test subject, as well as ethical concerns about cloning human consciousness, complicate matters. However, this is primarily a touching story about a mother-daughter relationship navigating a war-torn, dystopian Earth.

The ending of Jung_E, explained

In the year 2135, in order for humanity to exist, colony shelters erected in space will be required due to the effects of climate change and the depletion of resources. For a period of forty years, three safe houses worked together to form the Adrian Republic and wage war against the Allied Forces of Earth.

A famed Allied mercenary known as Captain Yun Jung-yi volunteers for a mission to attack a fuel rod located inside an Adrian shelter. She has the opportunity to win the game, but she lets herself be sidetracked by a child's keychain. After being shot in the hand, it becomes clear that she, too, is a robot.

Yun's system crashes, exposing the fact that she is merely participating in a simulation. The original Yun was unsuccessful in completing the job and wound up in a coma thirty-five years ago. Yun's daughter, Dr. Yun Seo-hyun, served as the team leader for the Kronoid Lab research project that cloned her consciousness. This consciousness can now be continuously uploaded into androids.

They have spent the past five years recreating Captain Yun's final mission in order to examine her brain map in the hopes of using the information to develop the most advanced artificially intelligent warrior robot. When the android is finally able to break free of the simulated environment, the "Jung E" programme will be finished. Then, in order to obtain an advantage over their rivals, Kronoid intends to construct the superior, trustworthy battle robot for the Allied Forces. Additionally, Captain Yun will be elevated to the position of "everlasting hero" as a result of this.

It is revealed that Captain Yun worked as a mercenary in order to earn money for her daughter Seo-lung hyun's cancer treatment in a flashback. On the same day that Captain Yun went into a coma, Dr. Seo underwent surgery. hyun's Even though she is an adult, Seo-hyun has not been able to shake the feeling that she is responsible for her mother's inability to live her life.

After conducting an ethics test to verify that Seo-cancer hyun is not an android, a medical professional tells her that the cancer has already spread to the rest of her organs. It has been estimated that she just has three months left to live. She, like her mother, would be able to replicate her consciousness into a prosthetic body for free; but, this would also imply that the data from her brain might be sold to firms and used to generate clones.

In the course of his visit to the laboratory, the Kronoid Chairman breaks the news to Seo-hyun that the Adrian War is drawing to a close and that all weapon manufacture, including the creation of battle AI, would come to a halt. During an interview with Seo-hyun, Jung E explains that her daughter bestowed upon her the keychain that distracted her with the intention of providing her with both strength and protection. Her daughter had cautioned her not to misplace it, thus it was imperative that she locate it. After coming to the conclusion that this was the reason Jung E was unable to complete her task, Seo-hyun removes all memories of herself from Jung E's head.

Before the simulations come to a conclusion, Seo-hyun reveals her true identity to the last Jung E android and deletes any further original data that could be used to manufacture other Kronoid goods, such as Captain Yun sex dolls. She does this before the simulations come to a close.

In the last simulation, Jung E is shot and looks to be dead; nevertheless, when her body is taken to be incinerated, she is able to escape thanks to Seo's instruction. hyun's Seo-hyun implants a basic android operating system into her brain, and then the two of them board a train. During a struggle with Director Kim, who is actually an android controlled by the younger version of the Kronoid chairman, Seo-hyun is killed by a bullet. After Kim is killed, Seo-hyun advises Jung E to forget about her and focus on living her life for only herself. After escaping the simulations of the laboratory, Jung E finds himself in a large, open, mountainous terrain.
